Unlike proteins, nucleic acids such as RNA and DNA do not naturally bind to uncoated glass surfaces due to their strong negative charge, which often makes accurate measurement difficult. To overcome this limitation, MGNA slides feature a specialized cationic coating that allows direct detection of RNA and DNA without the need for extra surface treatments. This product eliminates unnecessary preparation steps, improves reproducibility across experiments, and saves valuable research time. • MassGlass NA slides have been specifically developed and validated for nucleic acid measurements. While it is technically possible to use MGNA slides for protein measurements, performance with some proteins has proven to be variable and inconsistent. Refeyn does not recommend MGNA slides for protein analysis and advises users to apply appropriate controls if used outside their intended application. For optimal and reliable protein measurements, Refeyn recommends using MassGlass UC slides (MP-CON-21022).

Why should I not exceed the shelf life of the product?

Exceeding the indicated shelf life on the product data sheet may lead to a significant decline in the quality of MassGlass NA, especially an increase in noise. Refeyn recommends using the slide within this time frame to ensure accurate measurement with your mass photometer. No, MassGlass NA and the silicone well cassettes are designed for single-use only to guarantee optimal results and avoid any sample or buffer cross-contamination, ensuring the best data quality is always obtained.

Yes, both sides of the MassGlass NA slides can be used to measure nucleic acid on your mass photometer.

Can I measure protein or protein-nucleic acid on MassGlass NA?

MassGlass NA slides are optimized and validated for measuring nucleic acids. Measurements that include proteins, whether alone or in protein–nucleic acid complexes, can result in variable or inconsistent outcomes. For protein studies, we recommend using MassGlass UC slides (MP-CON-21022 or MP-CON-21023). For protein-nucleic acid interaction studies, we recommend running parallel controls on MassGlass UC slides to confirm the measurements of the protein component and strengthen confidence in your findings.
