SizeFerence is a calibrant designed for the KaritroMP macro mass photometer, ensuring accuracy in particle size and contrast measurements within the 40–150 nm range. This includes critical particles such as adenoviruses, lentiviruses and other viral vectors. The calibrant features silica beads of known diameters (50, 60, 80, 100, and 120 nm), serving as reference points for particle size and contrast determination. These beads are mixed in roughly equimolar concentrations and automatically analyzed by the KaritroMP instrument to develop a model that calculates the particle size and contrast of the sample.
Macro mass photometry operates by measuring two essential parameters for each particle: contrast, which acts as a proxy for mass, and particle size, determined by identifying the optimum contrast point after conducting a focus sweep of the sample. This process is possible thanks to an automatic calibration with SizeFerence, standardizing measurements across various experiments, instruments, and laboratories.
SizeFerence is user-friendly and ensures consistent calibration, guaranteeing reproducibility in measurements across diverse settings. It is available in a 0.3 mL suspension of silica beads in deionized water and requires dilution before use, following the batch-specific instructions provided.
